The Butcher · Kilkenny
A rebuilt menu for a steakhouse, word for word.
A steakhouse in Kilkenny with menus that had been reprinted, amended and photocopied until the layout no longer held. The food was not the problem.
What it was
Menus that had been changed a season at a time for years. A dish dropped here, a price stickered over there, a wine added at the bottom because there was nowhere else to put it.
Nothing was wrong with the writing. The kitchen knew exactly what it wanted to say. What had gone was the structure underneath it, so every amendment made the next one harder.
What we did
Every word stayed. The steaks, the cuts, the wine list, all of it exactly as the kitchen wrote it. We did not rewrite a menu to suit a layout.
What changed was the setting: a grid the menu actually obeys, type sized to be read in a dim room, and a structure built so a dish can be dropped and another added without the page falling apart.
The website was rebuilt to match, and handed over on the restaurant's own domain and accounts.
What changed
A seasonal change now takes minutes instead of an afternoon, and it does not break the layout when it happens. That was the whole job.
We are not going to put a percentage on this page. Nobody measured one, and a number nobody measured is worth less than the sentence above it.
